LAST SEASON:
Epps built a career year in 2023 with FC Tulsa of the USL Championship. Tied 9th in the league in assists with seven, he also tied for 28th in goals scored with nine. These were both career highs, also notching a career-high in appearances with 33.
USL EXPERIENCE:
The right winger is one of the elite goal scorers in the league, spending time in the league since 2017. He made 13 appearances with former USL club Bethlehem Steel on loan from their MLS affiliate. He tallied one goal and one assist for the club during that span before getting sent back to the MLS in November. He saw more time for Bethlehem in 2018, making 12 appearances. In those matches, he doubled his goal and assist numbers from the previous season, showing vast improvement. In 2019 he began his four-season stretch dedicated to the USL Championship, becoming one of the best hybrid facilitating and scoring forwards in the league. Since 2019, he is ranked 41st in goals scored, 33rd in assists, and 40th in points scored.
OUTSIDE THE USL:
As a youth, Marcus Epps was already making strides as a soccer player. He competed for the Chicago Fire Academy, where he proved good enough to land a spot on the 2012 US Soccer Academy Development Winter Showcase Select Team as a senior in high school. He committed to the University of South Florida, where he played for four years. In college, he scored eight goals in 75 appearances, while also competing for the Chicago Fire U-23 team of the Premier Development League. He was selected 25th in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union. He appeared in 32 matches for the team over a two-season span, scoring three goals. He also played in five matches of the US Open Cup for Philadelphia during that time, also scoring two goals. In 2019 he saw time in three matches for the MLS New York Red Bulls before strictly spending his professional career in the USL Championship.
