LAST SEASON:
Thompson spent the 2023 season with North Carolina FC of USL League One on loan from Philadelphia Union II. He helped his team win the USL1 Cup Championship, for the first time since the club’s inception. He made 17 starts, notching 54 saves, four clean sheets, and 10 wins. He posted a league-fourth 1.27 GAA and clinched the Final with a save in penalties.
USL EXPERIENCE:
The goalkeeper’s first experience in the USL Championship was in 2019 when the then 16-year-old appeared in and started one match for Swope Park Rangers. In the match, he earned his first win of his professional career. He spent 2020 and 2021 with Sporting Kansas II, where he made 11 starts over the two seasons. In those starts, he made 39 saves and earned 3 wins. In August of 2020, he was named to the USL Championship Team of the Week after recording his first professional clean sheet.
OUTSIDE THE USL:
In 2016, Thompson joined IMG Academy, where he competed in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy until 2018. In 2017, he joined Derby City Rovers of the Premier Development League. After a strong showing, he signed with the youth academy of Sporting Kansas City that same year. During the 2018-2019 season, he led the U-19s, posting seven wins and four clean sheets. This culminated in a contract with Swope Park Rangers following that season.
