Hartford Athletic has signed Bloomfield, CT native Rashawn Dally ahead of the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval.  

Dally attended the Watkinson School in Hartford before playing four years on the Quinnipiac Men’s Soccer team. He played four seasons for the Bobcats, tallying sixteen goals and fifteen assists over seventy-eight matches. The forward was invited to the Jamaica National Team senior camp in March 2018 and has experience in camps with Jamaica at various youth levels. He was a two-time United Soccer Coaches All-East Region Third-Team honoree (2016, 2018), and a three-time All-MAAC performer (2018 first team; 2016, 2017 second team). 

"In my short time in Connecticut, it’s been clear how much talent is in this state. We are thrilled to bring one of its finest products back home in Rashawn,” said Head Coach Harry Watling. “Fans can expect a physically dominant, mobile target man and plenty of goals from Rashawn this season. He is a great fit for our style of play and I am excited to get him on the pitch.” 

Dally was selected 49th overall by FC Cincinnati in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft after finishing his collegiate career. He played sixteen matches over two seasons for the former USL side while also spending two stints on loan, one with Memphis 901 FC in 2019 and another with Las Vegas Lights in 2020. He re-signed with Memphis for the 2021 season and appeared in twenty-four matches, starting six.

Dally founded Rulla Sports Empowerment which aims to provide young athletes with the necessary tools to maximize their athletic abilities. Already making an impact in the community, the organization hosted its inaugural “Kick It With The Pro’s” camp for Greater Hartford area kids in East Windsor in late December. 

“Growing up in Connecticut, I was fortunate to get the opportunity to play soccer at a high level,” Dally said. “I want to give that back to the next generation of kids who have the same dream I had.”

Athletic start the season on the road on Saturday, March 19th against rival Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. The Boys in Green stay on the road for their second match, visiting Tampa Bay Rowdies on Saturday, March 26th. Hartford opens the doors to Dillon Stadium on Saturday, April 2nd against Atlanta United 2 in the first meeting between the two sides since 2019.

On Saturday, April 23rd, Hartford will host Detroit City FC who are playing their first season in the USL Championship. DCFC spent the past two seasons in the National Independent Soccer Association.  Hartford will play eight other opponents for the first time in club history this season hosting Phoenix Rising FC (5/28), Las Vegas Lights FC (9/17), and Oakland Roots (10/8) and visiting FC Tulsa (5/21), El Paso Locomotive FC (6/4), San Diego Loyal SC (6/11), Rio Grande Valley FC (7/27), and LA Galaxy II (9/5). 

Hartford will also renew matchups with a number of Eastern Conference foes for the first time since 2019. Including previously mentioned Atlanta United 2, Athletic will play home and away against Birmingham Legion FC and Memphis 901 FC. Indy Eleven, whom the club last played in the pandemic shortened 2020 season, is also on the schedule for home and away matches.

The remainder of the schedule consists of home and away matchups with 2021 Atlantic Division foes Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Miami FC, Charleston Battery, New York Red Bulls II, and Loudoun United FC and a rematch with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The Switchbacks will come to Hartford on Tuesday, June 28th, one of two weekday home matches this season.

Hartford Athletic has signed Midfielder Peter-Lee Vassell (St. James Parish, Jamaica) ahead of the 2022 season, pending league and federation approval.  

Vassell comes to Hartford after spending the 2021 season with fellow USL Championship side Indy Eleven where he was third on the team with three goals. The 23-year-old has turned heads in recent years with the Jamaican National Team, bagging six goals in 18 appearances with the “Reggae Boyz” at the senior international level including contests in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup and 2021 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying competitions. Vassell has been named in the squad for Jamaica’s upcoming friendly with Peru on January 20th. 

"Peter-Lee Vassell is a tremendously talented player and we are thrilled to add him to our squad,” said Head Coach Harry Watling. “As a Jamaican International, Vassell brings great experience and lots of quality in attack. He will be a big part of our success this season.” 

Vassell split the 2019 season between a pair of regular season champions, making six appearances for LAFC as part of their MLS Supporters Shield winning campaign and playing another six games on loan for USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC. LAFC drafted Vassell with their first pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft (2nd round, 40th overall selection) after the attacking midfielder stood out in both the MLS Caribbean Combine and MLS Combine. Vassell began his professional career with Harbour View FC, where he scored a pair of goals in 38 contests across the 2017-18 seasons for the perennial Jamaican Red Stripe Premier League contender. 

“Hartford Athletic seems like a perfect fit,” Vassell said. “Their style of play fits my game very well and I think it will bring out the best in me on the pitch. Hartford also has a large Jamaican population which will make me feel right at home. It is the perfect situation for me.”

Pack has played the past two seasons with Charlotte Independence. In 2021, Pack made twenty starts, recording six clean sheets and fifty-one saves. He started in goal for three of four matchups between Charlotte and Hartford last season allowing only two goals and making eight saves.  

“Joining Hartford is a very exciting opportunity for me,” Pack said. “I love the style of play and think I will fit very well in the system Coach Watling and his staff has put in place. Ash has made four appearances for the Haitian National Team, including 2 appearances during friendlies in the September international window.

Hartford Athletic has named Jake Davis as First Team Assistant Coach and Goalkeepers Coach for the 2022 season. He spent three months on the Hartford staff as a part-time assistant in 2021. 

“The team behind the team is key and I believe we have one of the most talented young Goalkeeper Coaches in the country in Jake,” said Head Coach Harry Watling. “He was pivotal in the form of Jeff Caldwell last season and we are delighted to have him on our staff this season.” 

Davis spent the past three seasons working as the Goalkeeper Coach for the University of Virginia Women’s soccer program. During the 2019 season, Virginia was ranked number one in the nation for eight consecutive weeks. In 2020, the Cavaliers posted four straight shutouts in the NCAA Tournament on a run to the national semifinal. Last fall, the Cavaliers recorded 13 clean sheets and allowed just 13 goals in 23 games, winning the ACC Regular Season Championship. 

Davis joined the Cavalier program after serving as the goalkeeper coach at Assumption College where he trained the goalkeepers for the program. He also worked with the Boston Bolts USL 2 team and the Boston Bolts DA team. He worked with the goalkeepers through all levels. 

"I am very excited to reunite with Coach Watling and Hartford Athletic,” Davis said. “The time I spent with the club last season really helped me grow as a coach and provide me with clarity on my next step in coaching. Prpa started in the first game of the season for Hartford against New York Red Bulls II and two games later, scored the game-tying goal in stoppage time to salvage a 1-1 draw against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the home opener. He suffered a foot injury in the match and didn’t play again until mid-September. Prpa appeared in ten matches following the injury and totaled 538 minutes on the season.

A season of good health will show what a talent he truly is.”

Midfielders: Danny Barrera, Christian Gómez, Conor McGlynn, Luka Prpa

Hartford Athletic has re-signed Midfielder Luka Prpa for the 2022 season pending league and federation approval.  

“I am incredibly happy to be back with Hartford next season,” Prpa said. “This organization is building something special and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get back to work with Coach Watling and get this season started.”

Gómez made his Hartford debut on June 13, coming off the bench in the 62nd minute of a 3-2 road loss to Charlotte Independence. He played 723 minutes over 13 appearances with 10 starts. He had 2 assists, 8 key passes and completed 80.1% of his passes, including 60.7% of his long passes.  

"Christian is an incredibly talented player and I’m pleased to have him back in the squad next season,” said Head Coach Harry Watling. “Christian will add quality depth and competition to our midfield and I expect that he will push himself and others to be the best possible versions of themselves.”
