Joe Rice and Conor McGlynn have been named the USL Championship Team of the week for Week 22. This is Rice’s second selection of the season (Week 20), and McGlynn’s first. The pair join teammates Prince Saydee (Week 1, 6, and 8), Matt Sheldon (Week 4), and Kyle Edwards (Week 15) as Hartford’s seventh and eighth Team of the Week selections of 2023.
Both Rice and McGlynn played major roles in Hartford’s 2-1 comeback victory over New Mexico this past Saturday. Rice made six saves, doing well to keep Hartford within striking distance after conceding early in the 12th minute. He came up with crucial back to back saves in the 41st minute, denying Amanda Moreno’s shot from distance and diving to block Santi Moar’s rebound attempt at the near post. He’d make two more saves in the second half, tallying his third straight game with six saves or more.
McGlynn had an excellent night on Hartford’s back line, making six clearances, winning three tackles, and creating the game-winning scoring chance for Antoine Hoppenot. McGlynn dribbled the ball all the way from Hartford’s box to midfield and lobbed a perfectly weighted ball to Antoine Hoppenot, who chased down the ball and netted the game-winning goal. It was McGlynn’s first assist of the season.
