LAST TIME OUT:
The final USL Championship match of 2019 was one for the books when Hartford played host to Tampa Bay Rowdies. Athletic played an encouraging first half, but unfortunately didn’t have the goals to show for it. Jose Angulo had a myriad of chances to put away in the face of goal, courtesy of crosses from Elliott Hord and Raymond Lee, but wasn’t clinical enough. The sides entered intermission tied at 0. The second half was the action-packed finale the fans expected. Two minutes in, Hord lashed a cross into the Tampa Bay penalty box that evaded their entire defense and managed to find Ryan Williams who scored with an 18-yard effort on his weak foot. Tampa Bay played from the 68th minute forward handicapped when midfielder Malik Johnson was issued a second yellow card for a dangerous tackle. Tampa Bay didn’t back down regardless and scored against the run of play at the 77th minute through Lucky Mkosana. Coach Nielsen went all out to finish the season with a win bringing on attacking subs Wojciech Wójcik and Nicky Downs. It was a tactical masterclass. Raymond Lee found Woj’s head with a pin-pointed cross for a historic late-winner at the 90+4’ minute.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Hartford Athletic #3 D- Raymond Lee
Raymond Lee comes into this game as the unsung hero of Hartford’s historic match against Tampa Bay Rowdies, putting in the perfect cross for Wojciech Wójcik to head home. Raymond will want to replicate his immaculate performance as he also shepherded the right winger of Tampa Bay into submission, and eventually a red card.
Portmore United FC #20, F- Rondee Smith
Rondee Smith is a forward essential to Portmore United. He has been a consistent feauture of the side for the last two years – both of which saw Portmore win their league title.
