Obregón Jr. had a nose for the net in 2021, as his 10 goals on the season lead Hartford Athletic and set a record for the most in a single season in club history. He was signed in April 2021, just days before the start of the regular season. After impressing in his invitation to preseason training, he found himself in the starting lineup in the season’s first match where he scored the first of those 10 goals in a 3-2 win over New York Red Bulls II. He also became the first Hartford Athletic player to compete in the Olympics, playing for Honduras. The forward scored once during the group stage, a crucial goal in a 3-2 win over New Zealand.
BEFORE HARTFORD ATHLETIC
Just before the start of last season, Obregón Jr. scored the opening goal in Honduras’s 2-1 victory over Team USA in the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship in March 2021. In 2017, he signed with LigaMX side Necaxa in 2017, and two years later signed with USL Championship side Rio Grande Valley FC Toros where he scored 4 goals and had 1 assist over two seasons. Before playing professionally, Obregón Jr. played two years collegiately at Siena where he was teammates with Hartford Athletic midfielder Connor McGlynn.
