HARTFORD, Conn. – In thrilling fashion at Trinity Health Stadium on Saturday night, Hartford Athletic earned a 2-1 victory over Miami FC in United Soccer League Championship action thanks to a late goal for the Boys in Green in stoppage time.
With the win, Hartford adds three points to their league standing with a 5-5-9 overall record. Miami FC sinks to 5-9-7 overall in USL Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Athletic pushed the pace early, resulting in a slew of chances that followed with the match’s opening tally off the foot of Barry Coffey in the 16th minute, where he pushed home a second chance try from deep inside the box.
- Miami FC responded to Hartford’s dominant start, answering with three shots on goal in a ten-minute span that were all denied by Antony Siaha. However, the visitors knotted the match in stoppage time as Jürgen Locadia ripped home a shot on a setup by Mason Tunbridge, marking a 1-1 score by the break.
- In the 78th minute, Hartford nearly took the lead as Augi Williams had a grade-a chance behind much of Miami FC’s reinforcements, however, came up empty as a defender found their way back to stop the rock on the goal line.
- The hosts found the match-breaking tally in stoppage time as Sadat Anaku chipped in a loose ball off of Miami FC’s goalkeeper, who proceeded to ricochet the rock into the goal mounts, giving Hartford a 2-1 lead.
- In goal, Siaha made three saves for Athletic. Both clubs ripped four shots on goal while Hartford owned a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
