The Boys in Green have clinched their second playoff appearance in club history. With Hartford’s final match last weekend, the regular season has drawn to a close and the postseason has begun. With that comes higher stakes and more pressure, but Athletic is up to the task!
The top eight teams in both the Eastern and Western Conferences qualified for the playoffs, with the higher seeded clubs matching up against lower ranked ones. Additionally, teams higher up on the table will earn home-field advantage throughout the tournament, making the final standings crucial for a successful postseason run. The Boys in Green finished ranked eighth place out of the 16 teams, so depending on the results of other games they could host a match later in the tournament.
The winners of each individual conference title then matchup to fight for the USL Championship Trophy.
As It Stands
Hartford Athletic will travel to Pennsylvania to face off against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC in the first round of the playoffs. While both teams finished the season with 44 points, the Riverhounds held the tiebreaker over Athletic and earned the right to host the match. In the other quarterfinal matchup, No. 1 Louisville City FC will be hosting No. 8 Detroit City FC to see who advances to the Eastern Conference semifinal.
The Fight to Make History
The Green & Blue will be looking to double up on hardware this season after winning the USL Jägermeister Cup earlier this month. A Playoff Title would also be the first in club history for Hartford Athletic.
Hartford’s first-round match versus Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC will take place on Saturday, November 1st at 6:30 PM. The club, in partnership with a local venue, will be organizing a Playoff Watch Party, so that fans can get together and cheer on the Green & Blue in their first match on the road to glory.
For those looking to have a beverage and watch the match with a bunch of other Hartford Athletic fanatics, J Under the Dome (1 Sequassen St, Hartford, CT) will be hosting the watch party.
The game can also be viewed on WTNH.com or ESPN+. Gather some friends, put on your Green & Blue and cheer loud for your Hartford Athletic!
