LAST SEASON:
The 2023 season bore well with Asiedu, competing for Birmingham Legion FC. One of the most consistent defensive midfielders in the USL Championship, he helped lead the team to the seventh seed and competed in the 2023 USL Playoffs. They upset the highly touted Tampa Bay Rowdies in the first round before falling in the second. During this season, he totaled 16 interceptions and 42 tackles, along with two assists and an 84.6 pass accuracy.
USL EXPERIENCE:
After being drafted in the first round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United, Asiedu was sent to Atlanta United 2 of the USL side on loan. After leaving the team in May, he signed with Birmingham Legion in July. In the 14 appearances with Birmingham to end the season, he totaled an impressive four assists. During his tenure in Birmingham from 2019 to 2023, he totaled three goals and 10 assists. He helped the club to the US Open Quarterfinals with a win against MLS club Charlotte FC.
OUTSIDE THE USL:
Asiedu’s soccer career began when he was noticed at age 16 in his native country of Ghana. In 2014, he moved to the US to play for St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey. In high school, he won a state and national championship and proved good enough to compete for NCAA Division 1 school Monmouth College. During his freshman season, he earned All-Northeast and All-MAAC First Team selections and earned All-MAAC Second Team honors the year after. He was put on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List his sophomore year before transferring to UCLA in 2017. During his junior and senior seasons, he made the All-Pac-12 Second Team, earning him a spot in the 2019 MLS Combine. He was then drafted with the last pick of the first round in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United.
