Hartford Athletic completed an incredible comeback on the road against Loudoun United, winning 3-2 on the back of 3 second half goals on Wednesday night. The win keeps an unbeaten streak alive against Loudoun, Hartford are 8-0-1 in 9 total matches against the club.
Hartford trailed 1-0 after halftime, a fact that is often damning for this group. Entering the match, Hartford had records of 0-12-3 when conceding first and 0-8-2 when trailing at halftime. Finally, the streak was broken. After giving up a goal in the 51st minute to go down by two goals, Hartford turned right around and answered. Juan Carlos Obregón Jr. gathered a deflected cross in the box. He dribbled around defenders trying to create space for himself, but ultimately found Conor McGlynn about 5 yards beyond the top of the "D" and McGlynn did what he does best, sending an absolute rocket into the upper left hand corner. It was McGlynn's fourth goal of the season and Obregón's first assist.
Hartford continued to work for another goal and found it just 12 minutes later. Working up the left hand side, full back Ash Apollon made a move past a defender and made one of his already patented crosses into the box. Waiting on the other end was Obregón who used his head to redirect the ball to the near corner and into the net to tie the match! It's the 10th goal of the season for Obregón, his third in three consecutive matches, and expands on the single-season record he set last match.
Leveling the match wasn't enough for this group who continued to hunt for the go-ahead goal. Arthur Rogers stood over the 13th Bank of America Corner Kick of the evening in the 81st minute and with so many tries already, was destined to change the match. Rogers delivered a beautiful in-swinging ball with his right to the same exact spot Obregón had scored moments earlier. Nico Cardona, the hero in an earlier match with Loudoun this season, came flying to the post and leaped to head the ball into the net. He failed to make contact with the ball but did enough to but the defender in a compromising position and the ball was headed into the net for an own goal! The goal put Hartford on top for good and secured the first road win for Hartford since a 1-0 defeat of Tampa Bay Rowdies on July 13th.
