PLAYOFF PURSUIT CONTINUES
Athletic clinched its second straight trip to the USL Championship playoffs with a draw against the Charleston Battery on Wednesday and now sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings. A chance to host the first round of the playoffs is still within reach, as Hartford trails Rhode Island FC (fifth) and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC (fourth)—who both have 40 points—by just a single point. Heading into their final two matches of the regular season, Hartford also has the chance to surpass the current club record of 44 points, starting with a crucial opportunity to pick up three points in Saturday’s contest.
SCOUTING REPORT
Brooklyn FC has struggled to find its footing in the USL Championship during its inaugural season, holding a 4-17-6 (W-L-D) overall record in league play. Brooklyn FC enters Saturday’s matchup on a three-match losing streak, having been outscored 10-2 over that span. Markus Anderson and Christopher Olney Jr. lead the team’s attack with six goals and seven assists, respectively.
BEFORE THE HUDDLE
“(We have to) win,” said Head Coach Brendan Burke. “It’s a must-win game, which we don’t say often, but we have to find a way to win the game.”
