PLAYOFF POSITIONING
It should be a matter of “when” and not “if” Athletic will punch its ticket to the postseason. Hartford currently sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 39 points; however, there is just one club outside the playoff picture that has yet to be eliminated from contention: Indy Eleven (34 points). With three matches on home turf, any points are vital as Hartford looks to make its second straight appearance in the USL Championship postseason.
SCOUTING REPORT
Charleston Battery enters Wednesday’s matchup having clinched a playoff spot, owning a 14-9-4 (W-L-D) overall record for 46 points with a +19 goal differential in league play. Last time out, Charleston suffered a 2-0 setback to Louisville City FC after coming away victorious in its prior two contests. Charleston is the highest-scoring club across the USL Championship this season, scoring 52 goals, with nine of those tallies coming from leading goal scorer Maalique Foster. Jeremy Kelly leads the team with nine assists as well.
BEFORE THE HUDDLE
“Charleston is an excellent team, consistently in the top three in the East. They have a huge roster and deep talent pool, especially on the attacking side of the ball,” said Head Coach Brendan Burke. “This will be a great prep for the playoffs in a few weeks.”
