HARTFORD, Conn. – Announced by the United Soccer League on Wednesday afternoon, Hartford Athletic is set to host Louisville City FC in the Prinx Tires USL Cup Final on Sunday, October 4th, at Trinity Health Stadium. This marks Hartford’s second straight appearance in the finale, with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m.
Athletic returned to the Final after edging out fellow USL Championship side Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC with a 2-1 score on Tuesday night in the semifinal round. Prior to their semifinal contest, Hartford defeated Charlotte Independence (USL League One) 4-2 in the quarterfinal round after going 3-0-1 in the tournament’s group stage.
The Boys in Green will appear in the USL Cup Final for the second consecutive season as they look to defend their Jägermeister Cup Championship from a year ago. They match up against Louisville City FC, who outlasted San Antonio FC on penalty kicks in their semifinal meeting. Prior to Tuesday night’s semifinal win, Louisville City FC also defeated the Tampa Bay Rowdies on penalty kicks in their quarterfinal matchup.
