BUSY STRETCH AHEAD
While Hartford has made positive strides recently, September brings a challenging schedule. Athletic kicks off the month this week with two matches against top Eastern Conference teams: Charleston on Wednesday and Detroit City FC on Saturday. Next, they host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Tuesday, September 8th, in the Prinx Tires USL Cup semifinals—the first of three home matches in an eight-day span. Hartford then returns to a standard weekly schedule for the rest of the month. With an almost fully healthy squad, Head Coach Brendan Burke will aim to keep players fit while maximizing the club’s chances for success during this crucial stretch.
SCOUTING REPORT
Charleston Battery has played as one of the league’s most dominant clubs in 2026, sporting a 12-7-3 overall mark in USL Championship action to sit in second place in the Eastern Conference standings while owning the league’s best goal differential (+19). Last time out, the Battery shut out Las Vegas Lights FC 2-nil after obliterating Miami FC 5-0 just five nights prior. Four players have scored five or more times for the club this season, led by Maalique Foster with nine goals, while Nathan Messer leads the group with seven assists.
BEFORE THE HUDDLE
“They (Charleston) are an excellent attacking team with a lot of roster options,” said Burke. “Being sounder defensively than we were against Birmingham Legion FC will be very important.”
