HARTFORD, Conn. – Despite an early advantage to the visiting Birmingham Legion FC, Hartford Athletic fights back to a 3-2 victory at Trinity Health Stadium on Saturday Night. A pair of assists from Sebastian Anderson, and goals from Barry Coffey, Michee Ngalina, and Captain Jordan Scarlett sent the near sell-out crowd home happy.
With the win, Hartford adds three points to their league standing with a 6-5-9 overall record. Birmingham Legion FC sinks to 3-9-8 overall in USL Championship.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hartford controlled the pace early with two dangerous shots off the boots of Augi Williams and Emmanuel Samadia missing just wide
- Two quick goals from Birmingham’s Romario Williams in the 21st and 39th minute gave the visiting side a commanding lead
- Athletic would not go into the half quietly, as Sebastian Anderson found Barry Coffey in the box in the 41st minute to cut the lead in half. Michee Ngalina would strike in stoppage time, tying the match at two heading into the half.
- Birmingham came out of the half quickly, earning a corner kick in the 49th minute, and a penalty kick in the 60th, but Hartford Goalkeeper Antony Siaha was up to the task, saving the PK to keep the game level.
- The Boys in Green took their first lead in the game in 74th minute as our Captain Jordan Scarlett found the back of the net off an incredible run and assist from Sebastian Anderson.
- The visiting side controlled much of the pace in the final minutes of the game, earning two more corner kicks in the final ten minutes, but Hartford’s defense was up to the task and secured the victory.
