LEESBURG, Va. – With Thorleifur Úlfarsson contributing on both goals, Loudoun United FC notched their second straight win in United Soccer League Championship action as they shutout Hartford Athletic by a 2-0 score on Saturday night.
Loudoun United FC improves to 3-5-9 (W-L-D) on the season with the win. Hartford sinks to 4-5-8 overall in league action, being held scoreless for the third straight match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hartford set the pace early, owning possession that resulted in two shots in a minute span – one apiece for Barry Coffey (15’) and Junior Moreira (16’), respectively – that were each denied.
- TJ Presthus added in to Athletic’s attempts for the first half, sending a low shot that was also stopped in the 40th minute. However, In stoppage time, Loudoun United FC rippled twine as Úlfarsson set up Abdellatif Aboukoura for a successful grade-a try from the lower box, putting the hosts ahead 1-0.
- The second half’s action opened with a strong stop for Antony Siaha in the 64th minute. However, Loudoun United FC doubled their lead in the 73rd minute as Úlfarsson chipped home the rock past Siaha off a carom from a sliding Jordan Scarlett, extending the host’s lead to 2-nil.
- In the 88th minute, Hartford nearly got on the board as off of a free kick, Andres Hernandez sent a rocket on goal that was stopped by the goalkeeper and ricochetted upwards off of the goal mount, staying out and holding the score at 2-0.
- Siaha made five stops in goal while Athletic owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. However, Loudoun United FC owned a 7-3 advantage in shots on target for the night.
