HARTFORD, Conn. – After falling behind 1-0 in the first half, Hartford Athletic scored two unanswered goals, including the game-winner in the 77th minute, to topple New England Mutiny by a 2-1 score in United Soccer League W League action on Monday night. Domi Richardson chipped in on both scores for Hartford, tallying the tying-goal before assisting on the game-winner.
With the win, Hartford holds down first place in the Northeast Division with a 4-0-3 overall record. New England Mutiny falls to 1-4-2 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- New England Mutiny nearly broke the ice early on as a point-blank chance was stopped on the goal line by a Hartford defender. In the 26th minute, the visitors broke through as Avery Klingensmith sent a lob on a free kick up to Eva Blatz, who pushed home the rock to give Mutiny a 1-0 edge.
- In the 43rd minute, Hartford found the game-tying tally as Richardson swindled the defense and ripped a shot far-post and in, knotting the score at one-all.
- Hartford continued to mount the momentum in the second half, ultimately cashing in on a header by Taylor Jenkins off of a free kick by Richardson to put the hosts ahead, 2-1.
- Hartford owned steady advantages in shot attempts (13-5) and corner kicks (5-2). In goal, Katrina Chorzepa made three saves en route to the win.
