Hartford Athletic have signed forward Daniel Bloyou to a 25-day contract, pending league and federation approval.
Bloyou comes to Hartford after spending the 2022 season with FC Tucson, formerly of USL League One. He played in six matches, including an appearance in Tucson’s 3-2 victory over USL Championship club Las Vegas Lights FC in the U.S. Open Cup.
“Daniel has great pace and athleticism,” said Head Coach Omid Namazi. “He is creative in the final third and we think he can help us turn our chances into goals. We like the energy he brings as an attacking player and we’re excited to see him on the field.”
Bloyou started his career at Old Dominion University before transferring to Penn State. In his senior season 2021, he was instrumental in the Nittany Lions’ capture of the Big Ten Championship. Bloyou led his team with eight goals scored, was named a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American, earned first-team All-Big Ten honors and was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team for scoring three goals and one assist across three tournament games. He finished his two-year career in Happy Valley with 12 goals and nine assists. Shortly after the end of his collegiate career, Bloyou was selected 75th overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Atlanta United FC before exiting the team.
“Daniel is an unselfish striker who does more than just score goals,” said Technical Director Ray Reid. “He will add some excitement to our attacking play because of his ability to create for his teammates, while also being a talented finisher. He is a versatile offensive player who we are thrilled to add to our roster.”
The Ghanaian native spent five seasons with Philadelphia Union Academy before college. He also featured for USL League Two sides Philadelphia Lone Star FC and Reading United AC during college.
Bloyou will be available for selection tomorrow night, when Hartford Athletic take on New Mexico United. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
