Hartford Athletic announced today that Head Coach Tab Ramos has been relieved of his head coaching duties.
“We would like to thank Tab for his hard work and dedication in his time leading this club,” said Hartford Athletic Chairman Bruce Mandell. “After careful thought and evaluation, I concluded that the direction of our team would benefit from a different voice. I wish Tab much success in his future opportunities.”
Hartford Athletic has played to a record of 2-10-4 just before the midpoint of the 2023 season. Ramos, who was hired in late August of 2022, coached the final six games of the season.
“This offseason we made a substantial investment in our roster and our coaching staff with the expectation that we would be competing for a championship. The results have been disappointing and have failed to match the talented roster we have assembled,” Mandell added. “I want to reaffirm to our fans and supporters that we are committed to building a winning club that makes our city and state proud. We will do what it takes to find the right formula to compete and win in this league.”
“I want to thank Tab for being part of this project and wish him the best of luck in the future,” said Technical Director Ray Reid. “Unfortunately, the results on the field did not match the effort Tab put in behind the scenes.”
Assistant Coach and Director of Scouting Omid Namazi will serve as the club’s new Head Coach. Namazi holds a USSF PRO License and his extensive coaching background includes stops with the US Men’s U18 and U20s, the US Women’s National Team, the Iranian National Team, and the Houston Dynamo. Dan Gaspar will continue to stay on staff as an Assistant Coach.
“Ownership and I have great confidence that Omid is the right person to take over the team and lead us forward,” Reid added.
Namazi’s first game as Head Coach will be on Monday, July 3rd, on the road against Loudoun United. Hartford Athletic returns to Trinity Health Stadium on Saturday, July 8th, against San Diego Loyal. For tickets and more information, please visit hartfordathletic.com.
