HARTFORD, Conn. (April 21, 2022) – Hartford Athletic announced today that it will host its inaugural STEM & Soccer Education themed match on Wednesday, May 18th at Trinity Health Stadium. The match will be played at 11 AM against the Boston Bolts and host teachers, administrators, and students from 4th-9th grade from across the state.
Over 2,000 students will participate in the day featuring a pregame STEM project contest. Each participating school will receive funding from Hartford Athletic’s Green & Blue 501(c)(3) Foundation for supplies and resources. All projects will be an integrative component of the student experience and will be voted on by attendees and designated judges, with the top 3 projects receiving a grant for their programs.
“Hosting our first STEM & Soccer Education Day match is a great way for us to connect with our young fans and show them the importance and value of education. We are excited to see all the hard work these students put into their projects and hope they enjoy some exciting soccer on the field as well,” said Hartford Athletic CEO Jim Burda. “I want to say a big thank you to our partners CGI, Connecticut Department of Transportation, ConnectiCare, Hanwha Aerospace USA, Marcum, PwC, and Travelers for their support of our STEM and Soccer Education program. We are so proud to have partners whose goals and vision align with ours and together we’ve created a fun and different opportunity for kids to learn.”
Hartford Athletic will also host #Changemakers night on May 7th. The #Changemakers initiative, which started last year under Hartford Athletic’s Green & Blue Foundation, will focus on period poverty as part of a partnership with Hartford-based organization Dignity Grows, presented for its second year by Walgreens. From 3-5 PM, Hartford Athletic staff, partners, and volunteers will put on the first ever Period Poverty Pack at Trinity Health Stadium. This pack will include Hartford Athletic staff and volunteers using funds raised by our community members, as well as matching donations from partners like The Aurora Foundation and Bank of America, to put together a “Dignity Tote”. These totes are filled with an entire month’s supplies of hygiene products and will be donated to surrounding schools and colleges in the Hartford community.
Following the pack will be the first ever Hartford Athletic Community Awards ceremony, honoring the incredible work Hartford Athletic partners do in the community and a networking happy hour right up until kickoff at 7 PM.
On May 14th, Hartford Athletic and Nuovo Pasta will host Champions Night, honoring Youth Sports Champions from across the state. All ten boys and girls CIAC Soccer State Champions will be invited back to Trinity Health Stadium where they raised a trophy just six months earlier and will be honored during the match.
On Saturday, May 28th Hartford Athletic will team up with the Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs to recognize the service and sacrifice of our Veterans and Military service members. As part of Veterans and Military Appreciation night, pregame ceremonies will honor Gold Star families and at halftime, Women Veterans will be recognized.
