Pittsburgh – Hartford Athletic continued a difficult road stretch to start the 2019 season falling 3-1 to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
Athletic infused new blood into the squad with Goalkeeper Jon Kempin and Midfielder Luis Argudo entering the starting lineup on loan from Columbus Crew SC.
Pittsburgh got on the board first with a headed goal from Dos Santos in the 14'. Athletic battled back but headed into halftime down 1-0.
Entering the second half, Hartford pushed forward with confidence. In the 54', striker Jose Angulo unleashed a shot from distance for what was surely a goal of the year candidate tallying his first of the season.
Despite strong pressure, Riverhounds SC regained the lead as Kerr curled one past Kempin in the 74'. Pittsburgh's Brett converted from the spot on a controversial penalty call in the 81' as the Riverhounds sealed the match 3-1.
Hartford has a quick turnaround as they head back on the road to take on New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday.
