Hartford Athletic poised to notch points as they head to Louisville to take on the 2017 and 2018 USL Champions Louisville City FC. Here's what you need to know:
HARTFORD ATHLETIC at LOUISVILLE CITY FC
Date: Saturday, March 23
Time: 7:00 PM ET
Location: Slugger Field, Louisville, KY
Streaming: ESPN+
Local TV: None
Where to Watch:
City Steam Brewery and Cafe, 942 Main St, Hartford
TK's American Cafe, 255 White St, Danbury
2nd Bridge Brewing Co., 642 Hilliard St, Manchester
LAST TIME OUT:
A late push by Hartford Athletic wasn't enough to overcome a 2 goal deficit against Charleston Battery last Saturday night in South Carolina. Charleston controlled play for much of the first half taking a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the 82nd minute, down 2-0, a handball in the box would give Hartford its best chance at a goal this season. Athletic Captain Philip Rasmussen stepped up to the ball and delivered the Club's first goal in history bringing the match to 2-1. Athletic continued to battle to the final whistle but in the end fell short dropping their second match of the season.
PLAYERS TO WATCH:
Hartford Athletic – Sem de Wit and Nikolaj Lyngo, D
After conceding 2 goals in each of the first 2 matches, Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen has made an extra emphasis on the team's defense this week. Look for Sem and Niko, the men in the middle of the Hartford Athletic defense, to try and control the final third and contain the high-powered Louisville offense.
Louisville City FC – Brian Ownby, F
When Louisville City FC needed a moment of quality against ATL UTD 2 last Friday, it was Brian Ownby that provided it as he picked out Abdou Mbacke Thiam with an inch-perfect cross for the game-winning goal. Ownby and Louisville have yet to really get into top gear so far this season but that could change this weekend.
ABOUT THE OPPONENT:
Louisville City FC are back-to-back champions of the USL Championship. LouCity opened the season with a tough 4-1 loss on the road to North Carolina FC but bounced back last week with a 1-0 win over Atlanta United 2. Abdou Thiem (UConn) scored in the 72nd minute to put LouCity ahead. The Club returns 2018 All-League First Team defender Paco Craig, but it’s top two scorers from 2018, First Team and Golden Boot winner Cameron Lancaster and Ilija Ilic, are no longer with the Club.
