HARTFORD, Conn. – In their inaugural season finale on Sunday night, Hartford Athletic took down AC Connecticut by a 7-0 score in a dominant capstone of the club’s first-ever season in the United Soccer League W League Northeast Division.
Hartford wraps their inaugural season with a 5-2-3 overall record. AC Connecticut’s season closes with a 0-9-1 overall mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hartford opened the scoring in the 16th minute as Mya Johnson sent a cross in the lower box to Riley Prozzo, who ripped in her first goal of the season.
- In the 27th minute, Athletic doubled their lead as Juliana Garcia sent a shot at AC Connecticut’s goalkeeper only to be saved. However, she cashed in on the rebound, marking a 2-0 score.
- Hartford extended their advantage to 3-0 in the 44th minute as Johnson rippled the twine for a goal of her own, besting out an AC Connecticut defender to stretch the lead. The hosts finished the first half with a 15-0 advantage in shots.
- In the 56th minute, Prozzo ripped home her second tally of the night, dueling out a defender and shooting it far side and above the keeper, pushing the score to 4-0.
- Hartford’s lead expanded to 5-0 in the 68th minute as AC Connecticut surrendered an own goal. Rebeca Frisk capitalized on a defensive breakdown and potted her own tally in the 74th minute before Shea Kelleher sank one home from in tight to extend the lead to 7-0.
- Hartford finished the outing with steep advantages in shots (22-0) and corner kicks (6-0). Prozzo registered two goals and paced the offense while Johnson notched a goal and an assist.
