NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Despite clawing back in the second half, Hartford Athletic battled but ultimately fell to United Soccer League W League Northeast Division rival Hudson Valley Crusaders by a 3-1 score on Thursday night.
With the loss, Hartford sinks to 4-2-3 overall in league action. Hudson Valley improves to 6-2-2 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hartford found chances early, coming up with a string of shots in the 8th minute that all wound up being blocked. In the 12th and 13th minute, respectively, Athletic notched a pair of corner kicks that proved unsuccessful.
- In the 38th minute, Hudson Valley capitalized on a defensive turnover just above the box as Joy Okonye finished off a give-and-go play to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.
- Hudson Valley doubled their lead in the 49th minute as a wide-open Jael-Marie Guy was all alone behind Hartford’s defense, cashing in far side to mark a 2-0 score.
- Hartford cut the deficit in the 80th minute as, off of a throw in, Rachel Wygant turned towards the goal mouth and fired the rock far side, marking a 2-1 score.
- Emmanuella Frimpomaa tallied for Hudson Valley Crusaders in the 90th minute, re-gaining their two-goal lead at 3-1.
