LAST SEASON
The 2025 USL Championship season saw a solid first-year performance from Junior Moreira. The 22-year-old logged 1,260 minutes over 21 appearances and 15 starts in the Green & Blue. As a solid and reliable midfielder, Moreira completed 77.8% of his passes, putting him in fourth on the team. While not a flashy player, he contributed one goal, three key passes and seven crosses, helping to fuel his squad’s offensive momentum. On the other side of the ball, Moreira provided 18 clearances and 12 interceptions. He also won 14 of 27 tackles, 57 of 117 duels and 11 of 33 aerial duels.
Moreira appeared in all but one game of the USL Jägermeister Cup, earning two starts and registering 203 minutes. Defensively, he won five tackles while adding two clearances and two interceptions. On the attacking side, the Bissau, Guinea-Bissau native successfully completed 44 passes with a 69.8% passing accuracy. Two of those passes were key passes that set his teammates up for a look on goal.
USL EXPERIENCE
Last season marked Moreira’s only prior USL Championship experience. His standout performances earned him recognition by the league as one of the top U23 prospects.
OUTSIDE THE USL
Known for his ball control and precise passing, Moreira is a well-rounded player who can transition seamlessly between offense and defense. He began his professional career in September of 2021 when he signed with Cancún F.C., a team that competes in Mexico’s second-tier Liga de Expansión MX. Moreira amassed more than seven thousand minutes across his four year stint, including 88 starts and 97 total appearances.
He was also a part of the record-setting 2023-24 Cancún F.C. squad that brought home the Campeón de Campeones Final for the first and only time in club history. After besting Atlante to win the Apertura 2023 tournament and falling to them in the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2024 tournament (first and second half tournaments), Moreira and Cancún F.C. took home the rubber match and the title in the two-leg championship.
