Playing as a central midfielder, Coffey reads the game well and is famous for making dangerous, incisive passes that unlock defenses and set his teammates up for success.
For his performance, Coffey was named the Professional Footballers Association of Ireland’s First Division Player of the Year.
USL EXPERIENCE
The 2026 season will be Coffey’s first in the USL Championship.
OUTSIDE THE USL
Coffey spent his youth career developing with the Celtic FC – an elite Scottish club – reserve team from 2018 through the end of 2020. He was loaned to Cliftonville FC of the Northern Ireland Football League’s top league, the Premiership, for the beginning of the 2021 season. There, Coffey made 13 appearances for a total of 857 minutes and scored two goals – one of which came during the playoffs. He also added one assist to his stat sheet.
The second half of the 2021 season saw the young Irishman loaned to League of Ireland First Division (the second tier of Irish soccer) side Cork City FC. Coffee made a strong impression on the technical staff, scoring four goals and adding three assists over just 11 appearances. Cork City coaches were so happy with Coffey’s performance that they signed him for the 2022 season.
The then 20-year-old’s 14 goals (the most on the team) and four assists were crucial in Cork City’s successful First Division title run and promotion to the Premier Division. The 2023 and 2024 seasons saw further success, and goals, from Coffey, until he was transferred to fellow First Division side Cobh Ramblers prior to the start of 2025 play.
Coffey has represented the Republic of Ireland at various youth levels, from the U15s up through the U19 squad. He has 28 caps and three goals at the national team level, including appearances in the UEFA U19 Euros and Qualifiers.
