HARTFORD, Conn. (Feb. 27, 2019) — Hartford Athletic announced today that Trinity Health Of New England will join as the Club’s Title Partner and the first of its Founding Partners. The multi-year agreement will see Trinity Health Of New England serve as the Official Healthcare Provider of Hartford Athletic and will feature Trinity Health Of New England on both Hartford Athletic’s home and away jerseys. 

Hartford Athletic and Trinity Health Of New England also unveiled the Club’s jerseys for the 2019 Inaugural Season in a press conference that took place at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center.

Hartford – Hartford Athletic announced the signing of Klisman Sousa (New Bedford, MA) and Ryan Williams (Birkenhead, England) for the Club’s inaugural USL Championship season in 2019, pending league and federation approval.
 
Sousa was identified at Hartford Athletic’s open tryout where he emerged as one of five players who were invited for an extended trial with the first team. “We’ve been incredibly impressed with what we’ve seen from Klisman over the past few weeks,” said Harford Athletic Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “He’s come in ready to compete from the very beginning and has quickly made it clear that he belongs on our Club.”

Sousa completed his senior season at Providence College in the fall of 2018. Sousa, a 23-year-old defender, was named to the All-Big East Second Team in his senior season. Originally from New Bedford, MA, he was named an Eastern Mass All-Star 3 years in a row.
 
Ryan Williams adds depth and experience to a talented midfield. “Ryan has played all over the world in many different systems and that kind of experience is invaluable,” said Nielsen. “He is an intelligent player who fits well with our roster.” Williams joins Hartford Athletic after a short stint with Tranmere Rovers of English League Two. Williams, who came through the youth ranks with League Two club Chester City, made a name for himself with League Two Club Morcambe where he played 61 matches over the course of two and a half seasons, adding 5 goals. Williams’s career has also taken him to Brazil and Canada, where he played for Serie B Club Paysandu and the USL Championship’s Ottawa Fury FC respectively.
 
Hartford Athletic traveled to Melbourne, Florida on Wednesday to continue preseason training. The Club will participate in three preseason matches against Miami FC, Orlando City B, and Eastern Florida State College. Hartford – Hartford Athletic announced that Sergio Campbell (UConn 2016), Klisman Sousa (Providence 2018), Anthony Asante (Syracuse 2014), Hami Kara (Pittsburgh 2012), and Ismael Longo (Florida International 2017) have been invited to preseason training.  

“Bringing five players from Open Tryouts to preseason training shows just how high the quality of the tryout was. Making our decision was not easy,” said Head Coach Jimmy Nielsen. “Players came from all over the country and beyond and we want to thank everyone who came out and showed their skills.” 

Sergio Campbell, a defender, is a native of Clarendon, Jamaica and a graduate of UConn from 2012-2014. In his senior season, he was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was drafted 19th overall in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew. Campbell went on to play with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in 2016 and Rochester Rhinos in 2017. 

Klisman Sousa just completed his senior season at Providence College. Sousa, a midfielder, was named to the All-Big East Second Team in 2018. From New Bedford, MA, he was named an Eastern Mass All-Star 3 years in a row.  

Anthony Asante, who currently lives in West Haven, CT, is a forward who most recently played for New Haven’s Elm City Express in 2018. Asante was a 2-time NJCAA All-American at Monroe College before transferring to Syracuse University. In his first season with the Orange, he was third on the team in points (14) and second in goals (5).  

Hami Kara comes to Hartford Athletic from Hartford City FC. Kara is from Wethersfield, CT, where he won a State Championship in 2008. He continued to play collegiately at Manchester Community College where he was named an NJCAA First Team All-American, and then at the University of Pittsburgh where he recorded 6 clean sheets over 2 seasons. Kara was also invited to the Columbus Crew’s 2013 preseason. 

Ismael Longo is a midfielder from Weston, FL, who played at Florida International University. Ismael grew up in the United States Men’s National Team youth program, playing for them at the U-14 and U-16 level. He ultimately switched to his native Venezuelan National Team at the U-20 level. He is currently in the pool of players for the senior squad.

Jonathan Brown played 37 matches with OKC Energy FC in 2017 and 2018 after playing for 9 years in England. Tyler David played two seasons with St. Louis FC, making 50 appearances. 

Lissek and Novotny add depth at goalkeeper as the Club announced last week the signing of Denmark’s Frederik Due. “I love the level of competition we’ve created in goal,” said Nielsen. “I expect Jacob, Mike, and Frederik to push each other every day in practice and help make each other better goalkeepers.”

Kyle Curinga is a defender from Clearwater, Florida, who spent last season with the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The 25-year-old started his career in Finland where he played for 3 years. Curinga returned to America 

to play for Real Monarchs of the USL Championship in 2017. He played in 26 matches for the Monarchs, who won the USL regular-season championship. 

Jonathan Brown joins Hartford Athletic after spending the past two years with OKC Energy FC. Brown, 28, previously played for Bangladesh Premier League side Abahani Limited Dhaka in 2016. He helped the team to win its fifth championship in the club’s history with four goals, four assists in seven games played. He also contributed with two goals and one assist in AFC Cup competition. Brown has played on a myriad of clubs around the world including Cardiff City (Wales), Rayong United FC (Thailand) and Hereford United FC (England). 

Tyler David, a 24-year-old midfielder, joins the Club after a year in Finland playing for Bollklubben-46. Originally from Lakeville, Minnesota, David was drafted in the fourth round of the 2016 MLS SuperDraft by the Vancouver Whitecaps. He later went on to join the USL Championship’s St. Louis FC where he played for two seasons. 

Hartford is the fourth stop in as many years for goalkeeper Jacob Lissek. After a great career at Fairleigh Dickinson University, the 26-year-old has played for Charlotte Independence, OKC Energy FC, Penn FC, and also spent a season with MLS’s FC Dallas. 

Mike Novotny is a goalie from St. Charles, Illinois. Just 22 years old, Novotny played one season with AFC Ann Arbor of the NPSL where he earned four clean sheets in his first four starts. He was named AFCAA’s Most Valuable Defensive Player in 2018. Prior to 2018, Novotny played collegiately at Eastern Illinois University. He was named Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year during his senior season.

Hartford – Hartford Athletic announced the signing of Frederik Due (Køge, Denmark) and Giuseppe Gentile (Miami, FL) for the Club’s inaugural USL Championship season in 2019, pending league and federation approval. 

Due becomes the first Goalkeeper signed to the Hartford Athletic roster. "Frederik is a top-quality goalkeeper who played at the highest levels in Denmark,” said Jimmy Nielsen, who had a 20-year career as a keeper himself. “He has great reflexes and is an important addition to our Club.” 

Gentile joins a deep group of forwards that includes Jose Angulo, Sebastian Dalgaard, Alex Dixon, Mac Steeves, and Wojciech Wojcik.  “Giuseppe is a very experienced USL player who will be important both on the field and in our locker room,” said Nielsen. “Having this kind of depth at forward is going to give our Club a great advantage.”

Frederik Due is a keeper from Køge, Denmark. The 26-year old spent 5 years with HB Køge of the Danish First League before joining Randers of the Danish Superliga in 2016. Due totaled 37 clean sheets in his 8 seasons in Denmark 

Giuseppe Gentile is a Forward from Miami, Florida. Gentile was drafted by the MLS’s Chicago Fire and subsequently spent the past 5 seasons in USL . Gentile had a career year in 2017, scoring 9 goals while playing for Puerto Rico FC of the NASL.
