By Hartford Athletic, 02/26/21, 11:00AM EST

Sebastian Elney arrives at the club looking to compete for the striker role up front. The 23-year-old grew up in Florida and was part of U.S. Youth Teams during his teenage years. When he was only 17, Elney had a short stint training with Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. As a senior, the striker joined the Philadelphia Union Academy. The new signing proceeded to have a standout collegiate career. While at the University of Maryland, Elney scored 17 goals in 78 games, and won a National Championship during his senior season. He signed his first professional contract with Red Bulls II, where he scored 7 goals in 36 games. Elney was listed on the preliminary roster for Haiti's CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying. Official rosters will be announced on March 8.

What to Watch For

  • Good positional play, knows how to find space between the lines and behind the defenders both during build up play and in counter attacks.
  • Great finisher inside the box. Knows how to use his physicality to be explosive and compete against defenders inside the area.
  • Without the ball he is really good at pressing and challenging the back line, making them uncomfortable and allowing him to win possession back.

Elney's Take

“I’m really excited to come to Hartford Athletic. I've played at Dillon Stadium twice and I can't wait to experience the incredible environment - this time with the fans cheering for me! The season is right around the corner and I can't wait to get started!"

Coach's Corner
