RECAP: Hartford Fall to Pittsburgh Again

By Hartford Athletic, 09/12/20, 9:15PM EDT

For the second time this season, Hartford lost to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, this time by a score of 5-0.

After a fairly quiet first ten minutes, the Hounds struck first. Ryan James, who scored twice in the last meeting between the two teams, chested down a ball in the box and ripped it past goalkeeper Parfait Mandanda to open the scoring for Pittsburgh. Roughly fifteen minutes later, Pittsburgh struck again. A miscommunication between Mandanda and defender Kevin Politz led to a loose ball just outside the 6 and an easy goal for Ropapah Mensah. An Anthony Velarde PK gave the Hounds their third goal of the first half and a 3-0 lead after 45 minutes.

Pittsburgh continued their dominance in the second half. James found the net again just 2 minutes into the second half and that would be more than enough for the Hounds.

No rest for the weary as Hartford Athletic is back at Dillon Stadium on Wednesday night against New York Red Bulls II at 7 PM. Tickets are available here. You can watch the game on WCTX-MyTV9 or stream on
